New York

The meeting was scheduled for ten o'clock that night. Palma would return to the confines of his Brooklyn fortress, and he himself, would go to the warehouse.

Luca, his personal bodyguard accompanied him. Luca had been with him of all his life it seemed. They’d been together over forty years. Luca was his most loyal and trusted ally. He was his friend.

Luca never stepped out of line or cross the divide that separated them. Whether it was in public or in private. They knew each other’s thoughts, like they knew the backs of their hands.

Arriving at the warehouse, Carlucci checked, and double checked his Thompson machine gun. The Thompson had been a present from Anthony Masterano when they were on friendlier terms.

Luca did the same, checking his twin luparas. He carried them strapped to his hip like the cowboys of the old west. He wore a long, black leather coat.

For his bulky size, Luca moved swift and quick like a jungle cat. He was sixty-four, three years older than Carlucci. With them, it was the older brother submitting to the younger brother. That’s how they saw each other.

Luca parked the car out of sight as Carlucci slipped into the warehouse. Palma had given him the key. He took up a position behind some crates near the center of the warehouse. He knew Luca would find a position for himself.

Two cars arrived. They parked close to the building. Then the engines went silent. They had arrived at the same time. Being the under-handed pieces of garbage that they were, they would be eager to clear their names.

The door opened. A flood of light barreled into the darkness. Geloni was talking. "Carlo must be in his office."

"Yeah," agreed Romano Goria, as they entered their graveyard.

Maffeo closed the door. The warehouse was thrown into darkness once again. They walked to the middle of the warehouse, as their eyes adjusted.

Then they heard the loud echoing explosion outside. Immediately they recognized the sound of the shotgun. They froze, looking around, guns quickly drawn.

Seconds later, a second shotgun blast erupted. All three men quickly hurried back to the front. They could see the light. The door was open.

Carlucci was pleased to know Palma hadn’t betrayed him. That thought had crossed his mind. Now, it was his turn.

“Not so fucking fast!" Carlucci shouted at them, causing them to freeze in their tracks.

Slowly in the direction of the voice, they were surprised to see Carlucci. Then it dawned on them that they’d been set-up. Of course, Palma hadn't lie to them. He just didn’t tell them Carlucci would be waiting at the warehouse. The pearls of deceit and treachery.

"Carlucci!" Exclaimed Don Marco Geloni. "What is the meaning of this?"

"You fuckers plotted with that bastard Tomaselli to kill me and have Hugo deported. My wife is dead because you fuckers!" Don Carmine Carlucci shouted. He raised the machine gun.

They were out of options. In act of self- preservation, they threw up their hands in a protection mind-set. However, that plea only drew laughter from Carlucci.
